Charlotte Baddeley

Hygienist

Charlotte Baddeley

Why did you decide to become a Hygienist?
From my school days I always wanted to do something practical and I was quite science minded so explored options in this sector. After completing work experience at a few dental surgeries, I came across the dental hygienist/therapist role. It was definitely something I could see myself doing and the rest is history.
Where did you train?
I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2012 with BSc Dental Hygiene and Therapy. I enjoyed my time at university and was fortunate to experience treating a range of patients in different care settings around the west midlands. I went on to complete Vocational Training year in the midlands following graduation.
Tell us about your career so far.
As a new graduate I undertook a vocational training year working as a dental therapist in NHS practice and attending study days once a month. From there I have worked at a mixture of both NHS and Private practices over the years eventually landing a role in Community Dental Services.

I have now worked in community dental service for 8 years providing care to mainly children and patients with additional needs. This role has allowed me to provide my full scope of practice and the opportunity to complete additional qualifications in conscious sedation.

Most recently I have Joined Hilltop where I have been warmly welcomed and look forward to providing Hygienist services here.

What aspect of dentistry do you enjoy most?
I enjoy helping patients to take control of their dental health and educate them on how to achieve this. I like the variety I have working different jobs and providing different aspects of dental treatment to patients. I always aim to make dental visits as comfortable and calm as possible listening to any concerns and worries and talking patients through treatment when nervous.
Tell us about Hilltop Dental Practice.

I enjoy working at Hilltop because it is a happy place where everyone works together as a team. We have regular meetings where everyone feels able to contribute and their views are important. My job can be quite stressful so having a well trained and efficient team around me is important. At Hilltop we have a fantastic team so my working life is made easier. This is reflected in the high standards of patient care we can deliver.

What do you do when not at work?
When not at work I enjoy spending time with my family, taking our dog out for walks, baking goodies and usually have some crotchet project on the go!
What are your aims for the future?
I look forward to continuing my professional development and embracing new updates and techniques in the dental world.
